South of Zadar, surrounded by pristine shores, rugged mountains and a huge marshy area, is the largest lake in Croatia, Lake Vransko.
Its 30 sq km water surface is a little above the level of the sea level and underneath there are hundreds of edible fish such as catfish, eels and carp at a depth of up to 4 m. But the “vransko jezero” is not only popular with fishermen, one or the other cineast will also like to remember it. After all, the Sioux tents stood in its Karl May films on its banks. What is unfortunately not seen in the films is the weather-dependent play of colors of the lake: as soon as it has rained, the water takes on a rich green tone with a slight yellow tinge. Unfortunately, this effect is rarely seen in mostly sunny Dalmatia.
